He continued his schooling at Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND for one year when he met Darlene Halvorson. On September 9, 1967, Gary was united in marriage to Darlene in Fargo, ND. To this union two children were born, Chad and Naomi. Following their marriage, the couple continued to live in Moorhead, where Gary worked as a night manager for Hornbachers for 10 years. In 1975, he obtained his plumbing license and worked around the Fargo area. Due to a back injury Gary sustained in 1989, he returned to school at North Dakota State College of Science. He graduated with honors in 1992, earning his Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology. In July of the same year, Gary and Darlene moved to Morris, where he took a position as an Engineering Technician for the Stevens County Highway Department. Gary was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, the Morris American Legion, V.F.W., the Framnas Township Board and the Stevens County Economic Improvement Commission. He loved riding horses, especially his favorite horse Candy Bar and trail riding with Darlene and their friends. He enjoyed using his green thumb in the garden, working on home improvement projects and going for rides with his pal, Buddy. Gary also liked to make time to stop and visit with anyone.
