The funeral service for Geneva Barsness of Chisago City, Minnesota, formerly of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Fron Lutheran Cemetery, Starbuck.
Geneva Victoria Frances (Berg) Barsness, age 94, died peacefully at Margaret S. Parmly Residence in Chisago City, MN on August 25, 2013.
She was born November 25th, 1918 to Carl and Agnes Berg and lived most of her life in Starbuck, MN. On November 19th, 1938 she married Ednard G. Barsness, Sr. and was a homemaker for over 50 years. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Geraldine Rasmusen, and her son-in-law Merlin Heggestad; her sisters Eldora Schaub and Gloria Kratochvil; and her mother and father. She is survived by her children Ednard G. (Josette) Barsness, Jr. of Forest Lake, MN and Karen Heggestad of Brooklyn Center, MN; 5 grandchildren- Gregory (Stephanie) Barsness, Brian (Sara) Barsness, Jason (Sarah) Rasmusen, Heidi (David) Wells, and Chad (Amber) Heggestad; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sylvia Hoven of Glenwood, MN and her former son-in-law, Ed (Ann) Rasmusen of LeSueur, MN.
Geneva was a member of the Eastern Star, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary as well as other civic organizations and church groups throughout her life. She enjoyed volunteering, reading and Bible study, cooking and baking. Geneva was a proud member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN and was dedicated to her faith, a guiding factor in her life. May she rest in peace.
