Funeral services for Genevieve Swenson of Starbuck, MN will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.
Genevieve Minerva Robertson, daughter of Leofred and Laura (Steen) Robertson, was born July 9, 1922 in rural Stevens County, Minnesota. Genevieve grew up in the Stevens and Swift County areas. She was baptized and confirmed on August 15, 1937 at Drywood Lutheran Church in Drywood, Minnesota by Pastor C. N. Sandager. Genevieve attended Swift County School District #30, graduating on July 2, 1937. On July 22, 1944, she was united in marriage to Elmer Swenson at Reque Lutheran Church Parsonage in Alberta, Minnesota by Pastor N. C. Renslo.
Prior to Gen's marriage she worked at various family farms in the Swift and Stevens County area, Lindrud's Variety in Morris and Woolworths in Minneapolis. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Morris and Genevieve and Elmer worked at the National Tea Grocery. During their time in Morris Elmer and Gen had three children, Gary, Vicki and Steve. They moved to Starbuck in 1952 when Elmer became the manager of the Farmers Union Co-op. While living in Starbuck, Gen worked with Elmer at the Farmers Union Co-op doing bookkeeping. After that she dovoted her time to caring for the family and home. Elmer died on December 22, 2007 and Genevieve continued to live at their home in Starbuck until the time of her death.
Genevieve was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck for 59 years and a lifetime member and past president of the Starbuck VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed her role as wife, mother and homemaker and also sewing, birdwatching, bowling, snowmobiling, visits from her grandchildren and family gatherings.
Genevieve died on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. She lived to reach the age of 89 years, five months and 23 days.
She is survived by three children: Gary (Judy) Swenson of Taylors Falls, MN; Vicki (Roger) Aaberg of Chaska, MN; and Steven (Lynn) Swenson of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren; Aric Swenson of Brooklyn Park, MN; Court (Angela) Swenson of Carmel, IN; Nicholas Swenson of Brooklyn Park, MN; Nathan (Liwei) Swenson of Brighton, MI; Joel Swenson of Brooklyn Park, MN; Andrew Swenson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one great-grandaughter: Audrey Paige Swenson of Carmel, IN ; one sister: Eldora Eich of Morris, MN and many much loved nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Fred and Laura and two sisters, Delores Root and Lorraine Bain.
Memorials are prefered to the Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck or the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.
