George Dieter

Memorial services for George Dieter of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Michael Hanson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

George Milton Dieter, son of Harold and Louona (Darrow) Dieter, was born December 24, 1927 in South St. Paul, Minnesota. As a child, his family moved to Glenwood, Minnesota where he grew up and attended school. In 1947 George graduated from Glenwood High School lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track. Following high school, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for two years where he played football. In 1949 he was drafted to the United States Army where he was a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict completing 18 jumps. After his time in the service, he went to St. Cloud Teachers College where he earned his teaching degree. On March 3, 1956 he was united in marriage to Clarice Olson at Barsness Lutheran Church in Glenwood. The couple made their home in Chokio where George taught history, geography, physical education and health. He also coached football for many years. George retired from teaching and coaching in 1985 but still enjoyed attending sporting events. The couple continued to live in Chokio until 2011 when they moved to Morris.

George died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota. He lived to reach the age of 86 years.

George was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Chokio and the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, fishing, folk dancing, coaching, and attending sporting events.

He is survived by his wife: Clarice Dieter of Morris; two sons: James (Sue) Dieter of Morris and David (Lisa) Dieter of Tracy; two daughters: Nancy Stevenson of Glenwood and LouAnn (Al) Hutchison of Bloomington; one sister: Pearl Jones of Grants Pass, OR; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: James Dieter.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
