The funeral for Gerald “Jerry” Altrich, of Donnelly, Minnesota will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the funeral mass will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery, Morris.
Gerald Francis Altrich, son of Joseph and Doloras (Staebler) Altrich was born on October 3, 1944 in Morris, Minnesota. He grew up in Donnelly and graduated from Morris High School. After his schooling, Jerry spent 3½ years serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, with 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine Regiment Hotel Company, stationed in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Jerry returned home and drove truck. He was united in marriage to Frances Lonergan on June 26, 1976 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, through this union one child, Shannon Marie was born. The couple made their home near Donnelly, Minnesota. Jerry worked for Cargill Inc. in Alberta, Minnesota retiring in 2008 after 32 years. After retiring, he stayed busy working part-time for Riverview Dairy in Hancock, Minnesota.
Jerry was a member of St. Theresia’s Catholic Church in Donnelly, a member of the 9F Sportsman club in Morris, and a Lifetime Member of the Donnelly Rod and Gun Club, where he loved to shoot trap with the Moose Island Raiders Trap Team. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had not missed a deer hunting season. Following his retirement, Jerry enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada with the fishing crew. He was also a regular at cards and coffee each morning.
Jerry died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 03, 2018 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He was 73 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of Donnelly; one daughter Shannon Marie (Tim) Olson of Albany; four grandchildren: Emily, Connor, Nathan and Olivia Olson of Albany; siblings: Rose (William) Kell of Sartell, Mary Lane of Graceville, Carol Hamen of Kensington, Jim (Marie) Altrich of Graceville and Don (Joyce) Altrich of Lake Crystal; uncle: Lawrence Altrich of Waltham, MA; brother-in-law: David (Elsie) Lonergan of Donnelly; sister-in-law: Marjorie (John) Holl of Waubun; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Joseph Altrich and brothers-in-law: Richard Hamen and Richard Lane.
