Funeral services for Gladys L. Kopitzke of Morris, will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 pm at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will take place at the Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Gladys Louise Teigen, daughter of Peder and Minnie (Dahl) Teigen, was born May 3, 1920 in Cyrus, Minnesota. Gladys grew up on a farm in the Cyrus area, where she was also baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She received her education in a country school in the Cyrus area, where she graduated from the 8th grade. After her schooling, she took jobs doing domestic work for various families in the Morris area. On June 5, 1940, Gladys was united in marriage to Leo Kopitzke by Reverend Alfred Sevig at the Bethany Lutheran Church parsonage in Morris. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Morris, where they raised their family. Gladys devoted her entire life to loving and caring for her family and friends. Gladys and Leo were blessed with 55 years of marriage before Leo passed away on November 16, 1995. Since his death, Gladys has continued to live in Morris.
During her lifetime, Gladys was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, where she worked with the Ladies Aid. She was also active with the Dorcas Circle and the Grandview Club. Some of her favorite hobbies included playing cards; cheering on the Minnesota Twins and the U of M Gopher Basketball team; reading; gardening; raising and enjoying flowers; making pies, bread and big meals; canning; and nurturing her family. Gladys was never happier than when she was able to spend time with her entire family. She will truly be missed by all those who loved her.
Gladys passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 90 years.
She is survived by five Children: Curt (Bev) Kopitzke of Paynesville, Carol Miller of Brainerd, Bob Kopitzke of Morris, Wayne (Donna Jo) Kopitzke of New London and Mary Kopitzke of Baxter; 4 grandchildren: Rachelle (Scott) Bengtson, Dan (Lisa) Kopitzke, Collin Kopitzke and Natascha Keller; 9 great-grandchildren: Alex, Cameron, Nathan, Jeffery, Bethany, Grace, Reid, Austin and Kyle and one sister: Lillian Davidson of Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, Peder and Minnie Teigen; four sisters: Tilda, Inga, Lyla and Myrtle; two brothers: Olaf and Melvin and one nephew: Walter Eliason.
Pallbearers for the service are: Curt Kopitzke, Bob Kopitzke, Wayne Kopitzke, Dan Kopitzke, Collin Kopitzke and Don Clarquist. Gladys' friends at Grandview will serve as honorary pallbearers. Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
