Gloria May Peterson, daughter of Louis and Minnie (Boekholt) Peterson, was born May 28, 1930 in El Dorado Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. Gloria grew up and attended country school in rural, Herman, Minnesota. While growing up she also worked in a café in Herman. On September 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harold Johnshoy. To this union one son was born. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in California, where Harold worked for Boeing Aircraft. They later moved to the Twin Cities, before moving to Starbuck and eventually moving to Hancock, where they continued to live for the next 20 years. Harold died on August 13, 2002. Gloria continued to live in Hancock, until July of 2009, when she moved to West Wind Village in Morris.
Gloria enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, decorating her home for the holidays and listening to country music. She loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.
Gloria died on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 80 years.
She is survived by her son: Philip (Cindy) Johnshoy of Starbuck; three granddaughters: Jenna Johnshoy of St. Louis Park, Shari (Cody) Bouchie of Detroit Lakes and Tena Johnshoy of St. Cloud; one great-grandson: Brock Bouchie of Detroit Lakes; one sister: Margery Christianson of Marshall and two cousins: Beverly Phylliss and Shirley Pieske. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Pallbearers for the service are: Glenn Christianson, Gary Christianson, Terry Brown, Steven Leedahl, Todd Johnshoy and Tom Johnshoy. Shari Opdahl will serve as organist for the service with Vic Vatthauer serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
