Funeral services for Grace Ernst of Morris, MN will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Alberta, MN. Reverend Ed Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Grace Vernace Ernst, daughter of Philip and Johanna (Busch) Ernst, was born January 17, 1916 on the family farm in Pepperton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended Alberta Public School, graduating in 1934. Following her schooling, Grace worked in the Alberta area cleaning and taking care of many children. Several years later she moved to Morris and started working at the Villa of St. Francis and other various businesses. Grace retired from cooking after she turned 70 but stayed busy helping at Unger's Furniture. In 2011, she moved into West Wind Village, where she remained, until her passing.
Grace was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Alberta, where she is the last charter member of the church. She was also a member the American Legion Auxiliary in Morris. She enjoyed crafting and reading. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Grace died on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the age of 100 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Don) Stephens of Morris and one grandchild, Allen Stephens of Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Rosina Brown, Lydia Cin, Emma Ernst, Wesley Ernst, William Ernst, Edna Kling, Lena Henriksen, Philip Ernst Jr., Henry Ernst and Ethel Taylor.
