Funeral services for Grant Smith of Donnelly, Minnesota will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. Reverend Rochelle Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 8 PM at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Grant Rodney Smith, son of Henry and Emily (Peterson) Smith, was born August 4, 1919 on the family farm in Rendsville Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. Grant received his education at the District 70 rural school in Stevens County. Following his schooling, Grant began working on the family farm. On April 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to Helen Treischel in Morris, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed in the Stevens County area until 1956, when they bought their own farm in Donnelly Township. Helen died on September 9, 2008 and Grant has continued to live on the farm since that time.
Grant was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly, Minnesota. His passions in life were spending time hunting and fishing.
Grant died on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 on his farm in Donnelly Township. He lived to reach the age of 91 years.
He is survived by four children: Lola Smith of Donnelly, Sylvia (Ron) McHone of Crystal Lake, IL, Sidney (Mary) Smith of Red Oak, TX and David Danzeisen of Herman; seven grandchildren: Charlene (Paul) LaGrange, David Hilbrand (Shannon Lien), Paul Hilbrand (Tammy Lusher), Benjamin (Kayc) McHone, Nathan McHone, Stephanie (Kwadwo) Oduro and Eric (Aimee) Smith; eleven great-grandchildren: Andrew LaGrange, William LaGrange, Ashlyn Stephenson, Sean Lien, Nacole, Katlyn and Samantha Hilbrand and Keagen, Avery and Grant Smith and Harper Helen McHone and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; five brothers: Kenneth, Howard, Gordon, Dale and Donald Smith and three sisters: Jean Anderson, Marjorie Smith and Lois Schueller.
Pallbearers for the service are: David Hilbrand, Paul Hilbrand, Benjamin McHone, Nathan McHone, Eric Smith and Leon Smith. Sue Erdahl-Nelson will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
