The funeral service for Gregory A. Durkee of Eveleth, Minnesota will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Carlton Andersen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock, Minnesota.
Gregory Arthur Durkee, son of Arthur and Carol (Osterman) Durkee was born on August 16, 1958 in Morris, Minnesota. He grew up and attended school in Morris, graduating from Morris High School in 1976. Greg then attended Alexandria Technical School in Alexandria for diesel mechanics. After his schooling, he moved to Eveleth, Minnesota and began working in the mining industry as a heavy equipment mechanic. He had been employed by U.S. Steel for many years. Greg also was the owner of Durkee Signs and Graphics in Eveleth.
He loved his home on Ely Lake, where he enjoyed the outdoors. Greg could be found snowmobiling or boating; and in his earlier years enjoyed hunting and waterskiing. He was a retired member of the Eveleth Fire Department. Greg was very proud of all of his nieces and nephews, following them in their activities and sports.
Greg died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in Eveleth, Minnesota. He was 56 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Arthur and Carol Durkee, Morris; one brother, Keith Durkee, Hancock; four sisters, Jackie (Ken) Nohl, Hancock, Rita (Dean) Meichsner, Morris, Peg (Brian) Kruize, Morris and Linda (Terry) Engebretson, Cyrus; twelve nieces and nephews and 5 great-nieces and great-nephews. Greg was preceded in death by an infant brother, Albert.
