Harlan Grant Van Horn, son of Harvey and Lila (Andersen) Van Horn, was born October 17, 1928 on the family farm near Barrett, MN. At a young age the family moved to Morris, where he grew up and attended school. Following his schooling, he began working for local farmers working with horses. He later joined the United States Army, where he served for two years. Harlan then moved back to Morris, where he worked for Dripps Motors and later began working for the City of Morris Highway Department. In 1979, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joan Ehlers. The couple made their home in Morris where they raised their daughter Angela. Harlan continued to live and work in Morris until his retirement.
Harlan was an active member of First Lutheran Church and the Morris Legion. He enjoyed fishing, animals, gardening and joking. He had a very good sense of humor and often joked with friends and family. More than anything, Harlan enjoyed his time with his daughter. They worked together at raising horses and Harlan enjoyed teaching Angela about them and how to care for them. Harlan had a kind and gentle nature.
Harlan died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He lived to reach the age of 86 years.
He is survived by his daughter: Angela Van Horn of Morris; grandson: Luke Harlan Van Horn; three brothers: Harvey Van Horn Jr. of Morris, Dennis Van Horn of Andover and Ron Van Horn of Great Falls, MT; one sister: Arlene of Phoenix and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Lorraine.
