Funeral services for Harold Charles of Hancock, MN will be held Monday, August 3, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Harold Albert Charles, son of Ernest and Clara (Erlandson) Charles, was born August 10, 1931 in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was baptized in Montevideo and grew up in Hancock, where he was confirmed at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church. Harold attended Hancock Public Schools, graduating in 1950. After his schooling, he began farming with his father. Harold was united in marriage to Marlys Thorstad on November 27, 1954 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. His father retired in1957 and Harold and Marlys made their home on the family farm; farming side by side until the time of his death.
Harold was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. He was also a member of EAA, Pope County Flying Club and served on the Hancock School Board. Harold truly loved flying and purchased his own plane in 1990. He was very meticulous and hard work was always important; however, he would slow down for time to visit friends or go fishing. Harold will be remembered for the love of his family and being very compassionate.
Harold died on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He lived to 83 years.
He is survived by his wife: Marlys Charles of Hancock; five children: Alan (Connie) Charles of Hancock, Kirk Charles of Milpitas, CA, Sandra (Randy) Aarestad of Halstad, Wanda (Ted) Gramm of Hancock and Todd Charles of San Francisco, CA; brother-in-law: Merald Thorstad of Morris; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five nephews: David (Nancy) Hill, Wayne (Barb) Charles, Carter (Bobbi) Charles, Bruce (Kathy) Thorstad and Gerald (Tammy) Thorstad and three nieces: Charlene (Bob) Chadband, Denise Hill and Nancy (Ray) Pansch. He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; step-mother: Ruby Sirr Charles; one infant brother; sister: Ernestine Quasebarth; brother and sister-in-law: Erland and Joyce Charles; brother-in-law: Lowell Hill; sister-in-law: Helen Thorstad and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Martin and Selma Thorstad.
