Funeral services for Harold Rixe of Morris will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Donald Main will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Burial will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Johnson.
Harold George Rixe, son of George and Grace (Aswege) Rixe was born March 9, 1932 on the family farm in Leonardsville Township near Graceville, MN. He was baptized April 3, 1932 and confirmed June 9, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson. Harold grew up and attended Trinity Lutheran school in Johnson and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture as a senior on March 25, 1949. He entered the army on February 17, 1954 earning a National Defense Service Medal as a sharpshooter before receiving an honorable discharge on January 18, 1956. Harold was united in marriage to Lorraine Raddatz on January 7, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran church in Dumont. The couple continued to live in the Johnson area where Harold farmed. In 1961 Harold and Lorraine bought the family farm and continued to farm until 1991. In 1993 the couple moved to Caledonia where they started, worked, and managed, Roseview Court, the assisted living facility for the Lutheran Home. In 2004 Harold and Lorraine moved back to Morris where they lived prior to moving to the Grace Home.
Harold was very active in church serving on numerous church council positions at Trinity and St. Paul's Lutheran churches. Harold assisted with organizing and starting the "Jesus Cares" program at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris. He served many years as Sunday school teacher and was very involved in elementary education at Trinity Lutheran School in Johnson. Harold enjoyed camping trips and spending time with all of his loving family including his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harold passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Grace Home in Graceville. He lived to reach the age of 82 years.
He is survived by his wife: Lorraine Rixe of Morris; four children: Duane (Linda) Rixe of Graceville, Diane (Kurt) Schoephoerster of Dawson, Rodney (Heidi) Rixe of Hoskins, NE and Rachel (Scott) Heins of Morris; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Lavern (Anita) Rixe of Duluth and Russell (Julie) Rixe of Casper, WY; one sister: Maxine (Ken) Weber of Sanborn; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jonathan Rixe; sister: Lenora Rixe; sister and her husband: Marion and Bob Nelson.
