Harriet Anderson

Funeral services for Harriet Anderson of Morris will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Ken Bowman will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

Harriet Evelyn Nelson, daughter of Chris and Rose (Hendricksen) Nelson, was born September 19, 1917 in Pepperton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended country school. On June 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arthur Anderson in Sisseton, South Dakota. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Morris, where they raised their children and Harriet worked as an hourly housekeeper for Morris families. She worked part time for 19 years at the Stevens County Hospital in Morris in the housekeeping and food service departments. Arthur died on September 3, 1966. Harriet continued to make her home in Morris, where she lived on 8th Street. She then moved to the Grandview Apartments and in May, 2010, she moved to West Wind Village, where she lived until the time of her death.

Harriet was confirmed and baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church in Morris. She later became a member at First Lutheran Church in Morris, where she served on the ladies aide. She was also a member of the Morris VFW and Legion Auxiliaries, where she served on the sewing circle. She enjoyed picking and making homemade choke cherry jelly and cookies for the veterans. She also made samples of her jelly for all of her nieces and nephews. Harriet also enjoyed quilting in her spare time and the occasional Dairy Queen treat.

Harriet died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at West Wind Village in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.

She is survived by her children: Janet (Jerry) Lawson of Minot, ND and Richard Anderson of Minneapolis; two grandchildren: Kevin (Tracey) Lawson and Lindsay Lawson of Minot, ND; two great-grandchildren: Dustin (Kayla) Lawson of Minot, ND and Ashley Lawson of Minneapolis; three brothers: Leslie (Selma) Nelson of Alberta, Leonard (Judy) Nelson of Morris and Paul (Arlene) Nelson of Donnelly; one sister: Carol (Maynard) Thorstad of Hoffman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers: Raymond, Merton, Howard and infant Glen Nelson and three sisters: Gladys Madison, Irene Thorstad and Fern Bruer.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church Chair Fund.

Pallbearers for the service are Harriet's nephews: LeRoy Thorstad, Michael Bruer, Dale Thorstad, Dwayne Nelson and Herb Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are all of Harriet's nieces and nephews. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
