Memorial services for Hazel Krueger of Morris, MN will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Federated Church in Morris. Reverend Lauren Snell will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Hazel Dorothy Winter, daughter of Cyrus and Anna (Ludemann) Winter, was born May 24, 1922 on the family farm in Pope County near Villard. She grew up and attended school in Villard, graduating from Villard High School in 1940. She continued her education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN, completing a two year business course. During WWII, she went to nursing school at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Hazel met LeRoy "Bud" Krueger on a blind date in Morris and they were united in marriage on May 19, 1945 in Willmar. After Bud returned home from WWII, the couple made their home in Morris, where Hazel worked as a legal secretary. She had a varied and interesting career of over 40 years. She retired in 1983 and continued to live in Morris, where she enjoyed volunteering at the Morris Public Library. In October of 2006, Hazel became a resident at West Wind Village in Morris and in November 2013, she entered the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Hazel was a member of Federated Church, the Morris V.F.W. and the American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed reading, sewing Raggedy Ann Dolls, gardening, bird watching and crossword puzzles. She especially liked baking bread, cookies and pies. She had a strong love for cats and was always very knowledgeable about current events. Most of all Hazel enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Hazel passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. She lived to reach the age of 92 years.
She is survived by one daughter: Margie (Larry) Nelson of Morris; two grandchildren: Benjamin (Tara) Nelson of Morris and Molly Nelson (fiancé: Eric Sanford) of Arden Hills; two sisters-in-law: Kaye Winter of Grand Forks and Vi Winter of Colorado and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy "Bud" Krueger; her parents; sister: Evelyn Bomstad; three brothers: Wesley, Walter and Fred Winter; sister-in-law: Doris Winter and brother-in-law: Maurice Bomstad.
