Hazel Quam

July 15, 1915 — February 12, 2009

Hazel Mildred Rowland, daughter of Charlie and Matilda (Lurun) Rowland, was born July 15, 1915 in Beardsley, Minnesota. She grew and received her schooling in Big Stone County, Minnesota. On July 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Clarence Quam, Sr. in Dumont, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed there entire married life in Eldorado Township in Stevens County. Clarence died on June 15, 1979. Hazel remained on the farm until January 1, 2009, when she took a bad fall at home that resulted in a broken neck.




Hazel was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chokio. She will always be remembered as a wonderful homemaker and an excellent pie baker, who also loved to play solitare. She was also a wonderful wife and mother who enjoyed the time she spent with her family.




Hazel died on Thursday, February 12, 2009, from complications of the injuries sustained from her fall. She was residing at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, Minnesota at the time of her death, and had lived to reach the age of 93 years.




She is survived by two daughters: Norita (Norman) Brunkow of Omaha, NE and Shirley (Richard) Allen of Elk River; daughter-in-law: Ione Quam of Ashby; two sisters: Esther Rinke of Morris and Fern (Robert) Wraamann of Lynden, WA; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Clarence Quam, Jr; one great-grandchild: Shane Buse and two sisters: Gladys Powers and Ethel Hoglund.




Pallbearers for the service are: Stephen Quam, Jerry Quam, Rodney Quam, Lance Brunkow, Curtis Prader and Linda Quam. Audrey Erickson will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
