Funeral services for Helen Violet Dullum of Starbuck will be held Friday, March 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN. Reverend Todd Klemme will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Minnewaska Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.
Helen Violet Blomquist, daughter of Andrew and Anna (Lindquist) Blomquist was born June 13, 1917 in Starbuck, Minnesota. She grew up on her parent's farm near Starbuck. On July 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Perry M. Dullum at the Minnewaska Parsonage in Starbuck. To this union five children were born. Following their marriage, the couple continued to live in Starbuck, where they purchased a home on Lake Minnewaska. Helen had many jobs throughout her life including Day Care worker, the Fingerhut in Benson, cooking at the Minnewaska Hospital for many years, and a Seamstress all her life, making many prom and wedding dresses. Helen lived in Starbuck all her life, eventually moving to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, where she lived until the time of her death.
Helen was a member of Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, where she was active with the WMF in which she served as an officer. Helen loved sewing, quilting, fishing, bowling, gardening, sitting in the sun, watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren, cooking and baking French rolls and Swedish meatballs. Helen was a fun and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was strong of faith.
Helen died on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.
She is survived by five children: Donald (Helen) Dullum of Glenwood, Patty (Lyle) Knutson of New London, Kathy Kelly of Santa Rosa, CA, Gerry Dullum of Starbuck and Candice Crawford of Starbuck; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters: Irene Blomquist, Aster Bystrom and Alva Amundson; brothers: Herman Blomquist and Alvin Blomquist; one infant grandson and one great granddaughter.
Pallbearers for the service are: Helen's grandchildren: Donald Dullum, Jeffrey Dullum, Chad Knutson, Troy Knutson, Brett Knutson, Shannon Johnson, Carolyn Kelly and Brian Kelly. Honorary pallbearers are Helen's great-grandchildren: Megan Dullum, Michael Dullum, Benjamin Dullum, Jacob Dullum, Karsee Knutson, Kellon Knutson, Lyle J. Knutson, Nicholas Knutson, Jake Knutson, Kaitlyn Kelly and Maggie Johnson. Lyle Knutson, Mimi Knutson and Mark Haberer providing special music for the service. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of arrangements.
