Helen Hruby

Helen Lucille Eisenmenger, daughter of Andrew and Agnes (Flynn) Eisenmenger, was born December 9, 1917 in Anthon, Iowa. Helen was only two years old when her family moved to a farm near Graceville, Minnesota. She attended eight years of school at District #38, rural Graceville and later graduated from Graceville High School.

Helen worked as a waitress in Minneapolis and Morris. She married Lester Hruby on October 12, 1940 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. They lived in Appleton, MN, rural Morris and rural Hancock, where her husband Lester worked for various farmers. They then moved to Morris, where Lester worked for Green’s Mill and Johnson Brothers Elevator. When Lester accepted a grain elevator managerial position, they moved to Lynchburg, ND, Sisseton, SD, Windom, MN and Porter, MN. They decided to retire and moved briefly to Starbuck, MN and then back to Morris, where Lester finished his career in the grain elevator business. Lester died on July 6, 2003. Helen remained in Morris until May of 2007, when she moved to Ridgeview Place in Sauk Rapids, MN.

Helen really enjoyed her role as homemaker and her cooking, sewing, and crocheting were nearly an art form. Most all of her children and grandchildren have received special items she crocheted for them.

Her hobbies included being an avid Twins fan, and fishing where she never caught a fish that was too big (nor too small) for her fillet knife. But above all else, playing cards was her passion and she never passed down an offer to play her favorite game, Bridge.

She is survived by two daughters: Shirley (Don) Kelly of St. Cloud and Cecelia (Jim) Eddy of Emmaus, PA; five sons: Michael (Valeria) Hruby of Sandstone, Thomas (Kathy) Hruby of Bemidji, Douglas (Dottie) Hruby of Marion, SD, Mark (Carol) Hruby of Porter and Gregory Hruby of Cold Spring; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Sheila Stewart; one granddaughter: Kristy Stewart; daughter-in-law: Jean Andersen Hruby; her parents and her siblings: Leo Eisenmenger, Ruth Skoog, Genieva Reilly, Joseph Eisenmenger, Eleanor Decker, Cecelia Kirwin and Blanche Dalseth.

Pallbearers for the service are: Benjamin Hruby, Nathaniel Hruby, Jason Hruby, Matthew Eddy, Glen Stewart and Ann Hruby. Honorary pallbearers are: Paul Hruby, Charles Hruby, Jessica Kelly, Laura Cleveland, Alison Hruby, Brad Hruby, Christopher Hruby, Kara Schweitzer, Nicholas Hruby, Nicole Eddy, Jennifer Graves and Michelle Peterson. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service with Ken Hodgson serving as song leader. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
