Helen Mumm

October 24, 1911 — July 23, 2005

Helen Alice Mumm, daughter of Oscar and Mary (Kruse) Mumm, was born October 24, 1911 in Horton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. She was baptized on October 24, 1911 at her parent?s home and confirmed on May 31, 1925 at Zion Lutheran Church. She grew up in Horton Township in the house that is now the Stan Mumm residence. Helen received her schooling at the District #20 rural school. After her schooling, she worked as a nanny and housekeeper for many families in the Appleton, Holloway and Morris areas. Helen also wrote the Horton News for the Morris Sun & Tribune and Hancock Record for many years. After retiring, Helen lived at the Key Row Apartments in Morris until failing health made it necessary for her to move to the Villa of St. Francis in 1988.

Helen was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she expressed her love for music by singing with the church choir and also taught Sunday School. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family and playing cards.

Helen died on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at the West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.

She is survived by one sister: Martha Drewes of Morris; nephews: Stan (Pat) Mumm of Hancock, Wally (Arlys) Mumm of Montevideo, Allen (Hazel) Mumm of Danvers, David (Fran) Drewes of LaCross, WI, Wayne (Lin) Drewes of Hawley, Jim (Gail) Mumm of Sun Prairie, WI and Mark (Sandra) Mumm of Madison, WI; nieces: Mary (Miles) Grotjohn of Baxter, Betty (Harold) Wolf of Brillion, WI, Margie (Willard) Lemke of Fort Atkinson, WI, Sandy (Gordon) Bellig of Sanborn, Bev (Grant) Gulseth of Sonora, CA, Delores (Wayne) Delp of Hancock, Mary Otto of Greenlawn, NY, Lois (Don) Mitteness of Benson, Jeanine (Victor) Arnold of Appleton, Ruby (Harvey) Thielke of Chanhassen and Audrey (Bob) Berg of Chokio. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Edwin, Adolph, Oscar, William & Henry Mumm; three sisters: Selma, Frieda & Laura; nephew: Kenny Carstens and nieces: Inez Carstens Beyer and Margaret Mumm Gades.

Pallbearers for the service are Zack Mithun, Tim Gades, Jon Gades, Eilert Beyer, Lloyd Thielke and David Paul. Dorothy Maus will serve as organist for the service with Don and Lois Mitteness providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
