Helen Wilson

The funeral for Helen Thea Wilson, of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Starbuck, with Reverend Sarah Taylor officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, near Starbuck.

Helen Thea Tonn, daughter of Louis and Alma (Hoverson) Tonn was born on January 13, 1917 in Blue Mounds Township, near Starbuck, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school. After her schooling, she moved to Minneapolis, and worked as a nanny for several years. She then moved to Glenwood, Minnesota and worked at a hotel coffee shop. In 1939, Helen was united in marriage to Howard W. Wilson at Glenwood. The couple lived in Glenwood until 1953, when they moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where Helen worked for Simonson's Home Furnishings. In 1972, Helen and Howard moved to Starbuck, where Helen operated a drapery business. Howard died on August 9, 1981. Helen continued to live in Starbuck, retiring in 1984, and entered the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in August 2009, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.

Helen was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being active in the Ladies Circle, the church quilting group and bible study. Helen also enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers and canning.

Helen died on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 94 years.

She is survived by three children: Loretta (Tom) Hodges of Missoula, MT; Marlis (Richard) Tvedt of Lakeville and Warren (Sharon) Wilson of Storm Lake, IA; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband: Howard; her daughter and son-in-law: Waneda and Marlyn Anderson; her parents; four brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers for the service are: Todd Eastgate, Scott Peterson, Gary Tonn, Wayne Tonn, Kevin Anderson and Brad Hyde. Honorary pallbearers are: Richard Tvedt, Mike Erickson, Jerry Erickson, Tim Hodges and Shane Wilson. Dee Syverson will serve as organist for the service with Larry DenHartog serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
