Funeral services for Irene Blocher of Starbuck, MN will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Minister Beverly McNeill will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.

Irene Gladys Bye, daughter of Rudolph and Ellen (Helberg) Bye, was born on November 1, 1929 on the family farm in Swan Lake Township, rural Cyrus. She was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church near Kensington. Irene grew up and attended country school until the 8th grade. She graduated from Cyrus High School in 1947 and later attended West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following her schooling, Irene worked at Unger Furniture in Morris. She was united in marriage to Charles Blocher on February 5, 1951 at First Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple then moved to Alabama, where Chuck served in the Army. In 1953, the couple moved to Morris where they raised their five children. In 1972, the family purchased Chuck's Supermarket in Starbuck, where Irene worked in the meat department. They retired in 2000 and continued to live in Starbuck. Charles died August 3, 2006. Irene became a resident of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck in November of 2012, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Irene was a member of Fron Lutheran Church, Ladies' Aide and the Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards, quilting, square dancing, gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family as well as the staff and residents at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.

Irene passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. She lived to reach the age of 84 years.

She is survived by her five children: Sue (Rick) Frass of Starbuck, Jan (Bob) Asmus of Morris, Diane (Brian) Lloyd of Kensington, Jon (Nan) Blocher of Starbuck and Meri (Gary) Danielson of Cottage Grove; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Eldoris Bye of Hoffman and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Blocher; her parents; brothers: Raymond and Gordon Bye and twin sister Gladys Greiner.
