Ivan Luther Dalseide, son of Rev. Carl and Tillie (Iverson) Dalseide, was born November 12, 1916 in Rolfe, Iowa, where he was also baptized later that same year by his dad. In 1920, the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa when his dad took a call at Morningside Lutheran Church. In 1921, they moved to Moe, SD, where his dad continued in the ministry. In 1928, the family bought a farm and began farming along with his dad's ministry. In 1931, Ivan's dad took another call, and the family moved to Parkside, Saskatchewan, Canada. During this time, Ivan met and fell in love with Gladys Tunem. On October 23, 1941, the couple were married on Gladys' family's farm near Canwood, Saskatchewan by Pastor Dahl. To this union, four children were born. During this time of their life, Ivan and Gladys were busy farming and raising feeder cattle and hogs, as well as providing some custom work for others. In 1956, they bought a farm near Fergus Falls, MN, where he farmed and raised cattle and hogs. He later bought additional farm land near Carlisle, MN. In 1968, they bought their present farm near Morris, MN, where Ivan kept busy farming and raising fat cattle. Gladys died on October 3, 1993. Although Ivan "retired" in 1982 he continued to help his son, Gordon, with some chores and work, such as silo filling and digging, until his deteriorating health would no longer allow him to do so. Ivan finally quit farming in the fall of 2003, and from then on his farming was done from the car window.
Although farming and raising livestock was one of Ivan's favorite things, he also enjoyed working as a horse trader, where he would buy, sell and even break wild horses. Ivan enjoyed visiting with friends and family and loved to tell stories about his life experiences. He was also an extremely kind man who was always sure to tell you "Thank You" for anything you did to help him.
Ivan died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 96 years.
He is survived by four children: Charles Dalseide of Dalton, Jerry (Gloria) Dalseide of Benson, Grace (Kent) Arneson of Moorhead and Gordon Dalseide of Morris; 4 grandchildren: Angela (James) Marohl of Benson, Chris Dalseide of Herman, Rhonda Aure of Moorhead and Mark (fiancé, Hannah Tanata) Aure of West Fargo, ND; 6 great-grandchildren: Amanda and Amber Marohl, Payton Dalseide, Marin and Mya Aure and Kendra Kramer, one sister, Thelma Thielsen of Muskego, WI and one brother, Clifford Dalseide of Fredericksburg, VA; brother-in-law, Olaf Olson and sister-in-law, Edna Tunem, both of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews.
