Jacob Richard Dyrstad Gorder, son of Alfred and Mabel (Dyrstad) Gorder, was born December 14, 1922 in Starbuck, Minnesota, where he grew up and received his schooling. He was baptized in January, 1923 and confirmed in 1936 at Indherred Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. He graduated from Starbuck High School. On March 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Eleanore Pederson at East Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home north of Starbuck, where they farmed and raised their children. Eleanor died on September 11, 2004. Jacob continued to live in Starbuck until the time of this death. He was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with family and friends.
Jacob died on Monday, October 2, 2006 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, having lived to reach the age of 83.
He is survived by: five children: Jerald (Brenda) Gorder of Sunnyvale, TX, Julie (Cliff) Holman of Circle Pines, Jane (Paul) Hjelle of New London, Jill (Scott) Bartlett of Starbuck and Jim Gorder of Morris; six grandchildren; 3 A½ great-grandchildren and two sisters: Millie Lauver of New Cumberland, PA and Clarice Hansen of Reno, NV. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers: Ernest and David Gorder and one sister: Alma Johnson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Cliff Holman, Paul Hjelle, Scott Bartlett, Reid Gorder, Jerad Gorder, Leah Barber, Lindsay Nygaard, Aric Bartlett and Amy Bartlett. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with Curt Bredeson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
