Jake Eps

November 5, 1919 — February 29, 2008

Jacob Van Eps, son of Walter and Kate (Evink) Van Eps, was born November 5, 1919 in Bejou, Minnesota, where he grew up and was baptized. He attended school at Chandler, Minnesota until the 8th grade. In his late teens, he moved to Hancock. On April 17, 1942, he was united in marriage to Jennie Bolluyt in the Christian Reformed Church Parsonage in Hancock. Jacob enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, where he served in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Following his discharge, the couple lived and raised their children in the Hancock area. Jennie died on January 8, 2000.



Jacob was a member of the Hancock Christian Reformed Church in Hancock, where he served on the church council and was a charter member of the Church Family Conferences Board. He was also a member of the VFW, the Gideons and the AMPI Board. Jacob served on several Dairy Boards, Hancock School Board, Walden Township Board, Hancock Health Services and the Lake Emily Association Board. Jacob always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.



Jacob died on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.



He is survived by his six children: Jean (Don) DeWaard of Pella, IA, Jack (Judy) Van Eps of Morris; Sharon Van Eps of Morris, Kate (Stan) Erdman of Hancock, Joan Jipson of Hancock and Joyce Van Eps of Morris; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Wilmina Robine of Willmar and Tracey (Lee) Sanders of Paynesville; one brother: Walt (Sene) Van Eps of East Grand Forks, MN; five sisters-in-law: Albertha Van Eps of Willmar, Jennie Van Eps of Big Lake, Helen Van Eps of Robbinsdale, JoAnne Van Eps of Hancock and Carol Van Eps of Chaska and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Jennie Van Eps; two daughters: Janice Kay and Jane Sharon; his parents and eight brothers: infant twin brother Lammert, Garrett, Dick, Bill, Lammert, Koert, Marvin and Chris Van Eps.



Pallbearers for the service are: Jim Van Eps, Ken Van Eps, Dick Smith, Delray Van Eps, Bob Van Eps, Arvin Van Eps and Mike Van Eps. Honorary pallbearers are all of Jacob's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deb Newhouse will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
