James Allen Berg, son of Leo and Borghild (Carlson) Berg was born on December 12, 1946 in Glenwood, Minnesota. He grew up in Starbuck, graduating from Starbuck High School in 1964. Jim lived in Minneapolis for a short time before returning to Starbuck and farming with his father and brother. He was united in marriage to June Sieben on April 21, 1972 in Eden Valley, Minnesota; the couple made their home in the Starbuck area. Jim and June purchased their own farm where they had dairy cattle and small grain crops. In 1998, Jim and June got out of the dairy business and moved into Starbuck. Jim began working for Lakes Gas in Glenwood and later worked as the custodian at the Glenwood Lutheran Church before retiring in 2008.
He was an active member of the Fron Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed fishing especially spending winter days on the ice spearing fish. He was an avid deer hunter. Jim spent many hours reading and loved playing cards and board games with family. He held agriculture and farming close to his heart.
Jim was a true Norwegian; he loved to joke with the grandkids throwing out Norwegian words and phrases and was always ready to eat the traditional foods including lutefisk and lefse.
Family was most important to Jim; he loved taking June and the girls on the annual summer vacation, traveling across the country on many road trips. Jim could be described as strong, patient, faithful, supportive and compassionate; he was a wonderful husband, loving father, grandfather and caring brother. He will truly be missed by all.
