James Lemen

Memorial services for James Lemen of Mission, Texas will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN. Fr. Robert Kieffer will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.

James Martin Lemen, son of William and Cora Lemen was born on September 29th, 1927 in Crookston, MN, where Jim lived with his family and attended school at Central High. In 1945, at the age of 17, Jim left school to enlist in the US Navy. He served our country for 2 years aboard a troop transport ship. After his service, he returned to Crookston and finished attending high school. After graduating he enrolled in technical school and got a degree in electronics.

On October 19th, 1948 Jim started employment with Otter Tail Power Co. in Bemidji, MN, as an apprentice Meter Tester. He later transferred to Fergus Falls MN and became foreman of the Meter Department. Throughout his career he was promoted to various positions within the company and in 1978 transferred to Morris MN as Division Engineer in the Electrical Distribution Department. During his time in Morris, Jim met and married Helen Hockert of Morris. Jim retired from Otter Tail Power on June 1, 1987 after serving 39 years with the company.

While in Morris, Jim served several years as the Post Commander of the Morris American Legion. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, TX and was also a member of the Elks. Jim loved to spend time at their lake home and had several hobbies and interests over his lifetime which included, raising and showing horses, ham radio operator, building and flying radio controlled air planes, motorcycling and fishing.

Jim died at his home in Mission TX on August 29, 2011. He lived to reach the age of 83 years.

He is survived by his wife Helen Lemen of Mission TX; his four children: Kevin (Ginny) of Tampa Bay Fl., Karen of Chelsea OK, Jeff (Becky) of Fergus Falls, Tim of Mooreton, ND. Jim also had seven step-children: Dan Hockert of Minneapolis, Gail Hockert (Chuck) of Morris, Tom Hockert (Pam) of Clearwater FL, Patricia Hockert of St. Paul, Mike Hockert ofAlbert Lea, Tim Hockert (Bridgett) of CO and Chuck Hockert of Port St. Lucy, FL.
