James Carroll Nystuen, son of Elmer and Eva (Bearl) Nystuen, was born December 17, 1937 in Morris, Minnesota, where he grew up and was baptized on May 28, 1939 at First Lutheran Church. Jim attended and graduated from Morris High School. On July 11, 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served until June 27, 1960, when he received an honorable discharge. Jim moved back to Morris following his discharge, where he has continued to live since that time.
Jim was a member of the Morris American Legion, where he served as Post Commander and was also a member of the Morris AmVets. For several years, Jim was a caretaker for a Boy Scout Camp in Siren, Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing and repairing small engines.
Jim died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 70 years.
Jim is survived by his son: Guy A. Nystuen of Bemidji; two sisters: Phyllis Kiehl of Largo, FL and Bernice Nystuen of Morris; one brother: Wayne Nystuen of Frazee; sister-in-law: Ardis Nystuen of Buffalo; brother-in-law: Kenneth Pedersen of Alexandria and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Richard and Orland Nystuen and two sisters: Verna Medlock and Jean Pedersen.
Pallbearers for the service are all of Jim's family. Honorary pallbearers are all of Jim's friends. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service, with Ken Hodgson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
