James Oliver Pederson, 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He was born August 19, 1915 in Cyrus, Minnesota to Albert & Louise Pederson.
He grew up in Starbuck, Minnesota and graduated from high school in 1934. He continued his education at Dunwoody Institute and Humbolt School of Business both in Minneapolis. Following his schooling, he began working at Abbot Hospital also in Minneapolis. In 1939, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Lillian and was blessed by the Lord with seven children, 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Following his job at Twin City Ordinance, he served in WWII. Upon returning to the states, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a farmer in New Prague Township. Twelve years later he moved in to Cyrus and became employed as a painter at the University of Minnesota, Morris. After his wife's death, he moved to Touch of Country Assisted Living in Starbuck, Minnesota and later to Homestead of Coon Rapids in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
Upon retirement James enjoyed gardening, visiting with his family, playing cards and games, being treasurer of the senior citizens and volunteering for church activities, including singing in the church choir and washing dishes during Do Day.
James loved the Lord and reminded us frequently, "To not worry about anything. The Lord has everything under control." He also loved to talk about the "Rapture." He was a giving person, supporting many Christian organizations, especially salvation minded ministries. James was a pleasant, polite, good natured, positive person, giving us this advice to live by, "Start each day with a winning attitude. Don't worry about your aches and pains."
