James Rud

Funeral services for James Rud of Morris, MN will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at West Wind Village in Morris, MN. Deacon Stan Hennen will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

James Thomas Rud was born March 10, 1918 in Starbuck, Minnesota, to John and Annie (Ness) Rud. Jim attended school in Glenwood, Minnesota. In 1934, at the age of 16, he went to a CC Camp (Civilian Conservation Corp) in Caladonia and later Lewiston, MN. They were responsible for building roads, bridges, dykes and cutting down trees. Jim was responsible for baking and cooking for the guys. In 1939, he spent one year working for the great Northern Railroad as a cook. He then picked apples in the state of Washington for six months in 1940. He then moved to Albert Lea, MN, where he was employed in a bakery. On September 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Doris E. Sleaper. They had one son, James A. Rud who resides in Grantsville, MD.

In July, 1942, Jim joined the United State Army, where he served four years in Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma. In 1946, they moved to Alexandria, MN and then moved to Morris, where Jim was employed at Max's Bakery and Kontry Kitchen Bakery. In 1963, he became the manager for the Super Value Store Bakery, where he worked for 20 year, retiring in 1983.

Jim was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Morris American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.

Jim died on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake, MN. He lived to 96 years.

He is survived by his son: James A. Rud of Grantsville, MD; grandson: Carlton Rud; granddaughter: Ashley (Robert) Vacek; two great-grandsons: Carlton and Corey Vacek all of Maryland; half brother: Dennis Rud of Minnesota; sister-in-law: Caroline Rud of Rockford, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Doris; his parents: John and Annie; step-mother: Alta; brothers: Silas and twins, Loren and Leroy; half brothers: Richard, Ross, Jerry and Duane and half sister: Beverly.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
