James Royal Satter, son of Roy and Gladys (LeSage) Satter, was born November 18, 1942 at the Stevens County Hospital in Morris, MN. He was of Norwegian, German and French descent. He was baptized at the Stevens County Hospital in the Lutheran Faith, because he wasn't expected to live for very long.
James was born into a life of struggling to survive physically and mentally, but survived he did without being able to walk and speak. He enlarged his family's world with his smile and beautiful blue eyes.
James had never been separated from his parents or immediate family. When his devoted mom and dad could no longer care for him, he moved to the Roseau Children's Home on August 8, 1959 at the age of 17 years. James resided there until July 24, 1961, when he was transferred to the Cambridge State Hospital, until May 20, 1971. He was then transferred to the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, where he lived until March 6, 1997, when he moved to Rem. Southwest Services in Canby, MN. This was a very home like place for James to live.
James died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, having lived to reach the age of 63 years.
He is survived by his sister and her husband: Gloria and Chester Larson of Donnelly; his brother and his wife: Jack and Marge Satter of Plymouth; nieces, nephews and many other relatives. Special survivors are all of his friends and working staff at Rem in Canby, who made his life for what it could be. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Pallbearers for the service were all of James's family. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
