James Spencer

James Edwin Spencer, son of Francis and Lucy (Taylor) Spencer, was born February 25, 1917 in Vandever, Tennessee. He grew up in Swanville, Minnesota and attended country school. He was baptized in 1942 at the Church of the Brethren. Following his schooling, he worked for various farm families in the Chokio area. On October 8, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ida Anna Whitmer on the family farm. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Hancock, MN, where James worked for Rowles Well Company from 1949 to 1979. He then went to work for Conroy Well Company until the late 1990?s. Ida died on December 8, 1998. James continued to live in Hancock until the time of his death.





James was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hancock. He also belonged to the Senior Citizens in Hancock and the Lake Emily Association. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and making donuts. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.





James died on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at his home in Hancock, having lived to reach the age of 90 years old.





He is survived by one daughter: Bonnie (Duane) Hausmann of Morris; five sons: Francis (Sandy) Spencer of Hancock, Donald (Janet) Spencer of Hancock, David (Sherry) Spencer of Tracy, James Jr. (Sharon) Spencer of Brandon and Jerry (Judy) Spencer of Atwater; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister: Ruth Wold of MN; three brothers: George Spencer and Gordon Spencer of WA and Charles Spencer of GA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one great-grandson: Brandon; his parents; five brothers: Billie, Red, Clarence, Bennie and Alfred Spencer and two sisters: Winona and Violet.





Pallbearers for the service are: T. J. Voges, Shane Joos, Wayne Ivy, Ryan Spencer, Joe Conroy, Steve Sokulski, Tom Hausmann and Bruce Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are all of James?s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
