Jane Sorbel

Jane Shirley Henriksen, daughter of Fred and Lena (Ernst) Henriksen, was born May 11, 1939 in Morris, Minnesota, where she was baptized. She grew up and attended school in Alberta, where she graduated from Alberta High School. On April 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Friesen. Following their marriage, they lived in Morris, where Jane worked as a Nursing assistant at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital. Robert later joined the Minnesota Military Academy. Upon his graduation, he went into active duty, where Robert, Jane and their three boys spent the next 11 years touring military locations in the Continental United States and Germany. In 1973, Jane went back to work at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital in Morris in the purchasing department. On December 2, 1978, she was united in marriage to Herb Sorbel. The couple made their home in Morris, where Jane continued to work at the hospital. They enjoyed raising horses and livestock. They later moved to Ten Mile Lake near Dalton, where they have made their home until the time of her death. In 1999, Jane began working at the Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, where she has continued to work since that time.



Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and traveling. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.



Jane died on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She lived to reach the age of 67 years.



She is survived by her husband: Herb Sorbel of Dalton; three sons: Todd (Marcia) Friesen of Excelsior, Tim Friesen of Brooklyn Park and David (Brenda) Friesen of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren; three brothers: Waldon (Lois) Henriksen of Fergus Falls, Herb (Doris) Henriksen of Eufaula, OK and Jim (Jan) Henriksen of McMinnville, OR. four step-children: Joel Sorbel of Ortonville, Janine (Robert) Larson of New Sharon, IA, Jaymes (Mary) Sorbel of O'Fallon, IL and Jennifer (Mike) Grund of Olivia; seven step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Donald, Richard and Stanley Henriksen and one sister: Darlene McDonnell.



Pallbearers for the service are: Rick Henriksen, Randy Henriksen, Robin Henriksen, Mike McDonnell, Mark McDonnell and Ray Henriksen. Honorary pallbearers are Jane's six grandchildren: Blake Friesen, Erika Friesen, Katelyn Friesen, Carter Friesen, Raechel Friesen and Emma Friesen. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service with Mary Huebner serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
