Funeral services for Jean Peterson of Morris, MN will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Robert Kieffer will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 and a rosary to follow at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris.

Jean Mary Quast, daughter of Alvin and Mary (Lyden) Quast, was born September 10, 1924 in Faribault, Minnesota. Jean grew up in Wheaton, Minnesota, graduating from Wheaton High School in 1942. She continued her education at the College of St. Catherine's, graduating in 1946 with a Degree in History. Following her schooling, Jean moved to Morris, where she began teaching at Morris High School. In 1961, she received her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota. On August 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to James Merl Peterson at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, MN by Father Nicholas Kraemer. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Morris, where they raised their children and Jean continued to teach until 1986, when she retired. Jean and Jim have continued to make their home in Morris since that time.

Jean was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris; The Morris Senior Citizens Center; The Stevens County Genealogical Society and The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She also served on the Alumni Association for the College of St. Catherine's.

Jean died on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN. She lived to reach the age of 87 years.

She is survived by her husband: Jim Peterson of Morris; one son: Tom (Le Ann) Peterson of Brainerd; three daughters: Mary (Mark) Ness of Roseville, Anne (Russ) Thomson of Rochester Hills, MI and Paula (Bill) Hertling of Albert Lea; eight grandchildren: Kate (Jim) Olinger, Emily (Aaron) Jasperson, Laura (Andy) Stellmacher, Matt Peterson, Megan Ness, Alex (Hollie) Thomson, Andrew Hertling and Hannah Hertling; six great-grandchildren: Rachel, Olivia and Isabel Olinger, Sawyer and Cooper Jasperson and Emma Stellmacher and one sister: Connie (Loren) Retzlaff of Edina and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers for the service are: Bill Hertling, Andrew Hertling, Russ Thomson, Mark Ness, Matt Peterson, Ray Farwell and Alex Thomson. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service with Ken Hodgson serving as soloist/songleader.
