Funeral services for Jeanette Mickelson of Cyrus will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus with Pastor Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Scandia West Cemetery in Morris.
Jeanette Ruth Matejka, daughter of L.G. and Lena (Smith) Matejka was born November 18, 1923 on the family farm in Donnelly. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. She attended and graduated from Alberta High School in 1941. On May 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Herbert Mickelson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly by Rev. John Vagts. The couple made their home on the family farm in Framnas Township where Jeanette helped around the farm and started raising their family. She worked at Wayne's Café in Morris for a few years before starting at Stevens Community Medical Center in 1965, where she worked for 15 years. The couple retired from farming in 1975 and moved into Cyrus where Jeanette continued to live until she moved into Holly Ridge Manor in 2012.
Jeanette was an active member of Scandia Lutheran Free Church where she taught Sunday school and was a Sunday school superintendent for several years. Later she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid and enjoyed helping with do-days. Jeanette has also been a member of the Jolly Workers Homemakers since 1944. She is known for her many talents, but one in particular is her grand champion chicken plucking at the Donnelly Threshing Bee. She enjoyed embroidery, card playing, sewing, making ceramics, gardening and especially spending time with her family.
Jeanette died on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN. She lived to reach the age of 91 years.
She is survived by four children: David (Ruth) Mickelson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Carmen (Floyd) Lundebrek of Lowry, Russell (June) Mickelson of Anoka and Louise (Jess) Jaeger of Stewart; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 4 brothers: Clarence Matejka of Richville, Glenn (Doris) Matejka of Brandon, Wayne (Dee) Matejka of Sarasota, FL and Vernon (Alice) Matejka of Frederic, WI and 4 sisters: Bernice Winter of Alexandria, Lou (Eddie) Kopel of Donnelly, Betty Pemble of Richfield and Winifred Stanfield of San Diego, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother: Roy Matejka and 3 sisters: Bonnie Robinson, Lillian Pariseau and Evelyn Kopel.
