Funeral services for Jeanette Veum of Cyrus will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Cyrus South Cemetery in Cyrus.
Jeanette Gertrude Rosholt, daughter of Herman and Olga (Hage) Rosholt, was born on May 1, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jeanette grew up in Minneapolis, where she was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. Her family later moved in 1926 to the Rosholt Farm 12 miles west of Pelican Rapids. Jeanette's family moved back to Minneapolis in 1929, where she attended Prescott Elementary School and Edison High School. In 1938 her family moved to Cyrus to start farming. Jeanette finished her schooling at Cyrus High School, graduating in 1940. On October 18, 1941, she was united in marriage to Edward Veum at her parent's home by Pastor Haaland. Following their marriage, the couple moved east of Cyrus to the Veum farm. Jeanette was a wife, mother, and homemaker on the farm for many years until they retired in 1990. The couple then moved into town, where they lived for many years. Edward passed away on September 12, 2001. In November of 2007, Jeanette moved into the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, where she resided until her time of passing.
Jeanette was an active, long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where she sang in the choir, was a member of WELCA, the study club, and do-days. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, sewing, cooking and growing flowers in her garden.
Jeanette died on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 92 years.
She is survived by five children: Douglas (Rochelle) Veum of Knoxville, TN, James (Cindy) Veum of Edina, Roger (Eileen) Veum of Chaska, Patricia (Lonnie) Anderson of Morris and Kenneth (Annette) Veum of Morris; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandson; and 1 brother: Robert (Lucy) Rosholt of Decorah, IA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; and 1 brother: Donald (Rosalie) Rosholt.
