Jeanne Marie Hofland, daughter of Dominic and Genevieve O’Boyle, was born on October 4th, 1942 in Huron, South Dakota. At the age of 8 her father passed away. A few years later, Jeanne gained her second father when her mother married Earl Berg. She met the love of her life Neal Hofland in Huron, and the two were united in marriage in 1961. The couple moved to Chokio, MN in 1963 where Neal started teaching. The two were blessed with four children, Beth, David, Lynn and Amy.
Jeanne was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chokio. There she helped with funeral dinners and made the best egg salad with her good friends for the St. Mary's church bazaar lunches. She also helped organize blood drives for the American Red Cross. She worked at Grossman’s Grocery, Nelson’s Grocery Store and Bev’s Superette. Jeanne also cooked at the Tri County Co-op in Chokio until her retirement.
Jeanne loved to work crossword puzzles. You could often find her at her chair working a puzzle with her weathered crossword dictionary next to her. She also had a gift of refinishing wood furniture, and her home was beautifully decorated with pieces she had redone. Jeanne was also very proud of her Irish heritage and St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday.
Jeanne will be so missed by her family. She was the best wife, mom and grandma you could ask for. She always made sure we were comfortable, had enough to eat, and would do anything for any of us. Jeanne spoiled her grandchildren and always made sure they had a treat.
She and Neal had an amazing romance. They loved to dance and were often the first on the dance floor! They both took such good care of one another.
