Funeral services for Jerrold Itzen of Herman, MN will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. Deaconess Deb Robinson will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 and an Odd Fellows service at 7:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Jerrold Lynn Itzen, son of Itze "I.J." and Fenna "Fanny" (Van Zomeren) Itzen, was born April 21, 1937 in Graceville, Minnesota. He grew up and attended Traverse County Country School. At the age of 16, he moved to Herman, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Following high school, he attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He later moved back to Herman to pursue his lifetime love of farming, partnering with his Dad. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, June Mau, on December 12, 1959 in Donnelly, Minnesota. They lived in Herman until 1971, when the family purchased a farm in Logan Township. He continued farming until his retirement. After retirement, he stayed active with agriculture by driving sugar beet truck, helping neighbor farmers and growing his "magnificent" garden.
He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows #230, Logan Township Board, serving as clerk for many years, and the Volunteer Fire Department in Herman. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening, watching Minnesota Sports: Twins, Vikings, and The Wild; playing cards, working through mind puzzles, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Jerrold died suddenly at home in Herman on Thursday, April 2, 2015. He lived to reach the age of 77 years, 11 months.
He is survived by his wife, June Itzen of Herman; seven children: Lynn (Kris) Itzen Pederson of Willmar, Wade (Stephanie) Itzen of Cedar Falls, IA, Dana Itzen of Herman, Wendy (Tom) Folkestad of Fargo, ND, Darin (Becky) Itzen of Detroit Lakes, Alayne (Jason) Kohlman of West Fargo, ND and Neil Itzen of Maui, HI; one brother: Irling (Libby) Itzen of Excelsior; three sisters: Iloise (Graham) Groth of Herman, Marialis (Glen) Jurges of Bremerton, WA and Myrna (Bob) Stahman of Boise, ID; sister-in-laws: Patricia (George) Itzen Burmeister of Kent, WA, Rosie (Don) DuHoux of Benson and brother-in-law Robert (Gretchen) Mau of Spokane, WA and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Berdien Itzen.
Jerrold will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends and all who knew him.
