She received her elementary education in Clinton and then continued high school at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris through the 12th grade. JoAnn was united in marriage to Harold B. Anderson on October 13, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. The couple made their home on a farm near Hancock, Minnesota, where they welcomed six children. JoAnn was a proud farm wife, taking care of her home, her husband, and her children, until she began working outside of the home. She was the Principal’s Secretary at the Morris Junior High School for many years and also worked as a teller at the Morris State Bank. After Harold’s death in 2016, JoAnn moved into West Central Christian Homes in Morris, where she lived until her death.
JoAnn was an active member of Federated Church in Morris. She was a part of many groups, including the Hodges Sewing Club, Women’s Fellowship at the church, Heart to Heart, and various Bridge Clubs. Harold and JoAnn loved to travel which took them on adventures to Hawaii, Jamacia, Alaska, England, and Mexico, as well as many bus tours. Other hobbies of JoAnn’s included scrapbooking, playing bridge, and reading.
JoAnn always had treats at her house, she was ready to serve ‘a little lunch’ to any and all visitors that came by. She was very organized and took the lead on planning gatherings – anything from tea parties to class reunions. Her children fondly remember the smell of fresh baked bread and buns in their home and enjoying them with real butter and peanut butter. JoAnn loved her family, and as she stated several times ‘Her family was her treasure, her most prized possession.’
