The funeral for JoAnn C. Van Vickle of Kensington, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kensington Covenant Church in Kensington, with Reverend Dave Wallin officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris, Minnesota.
JoAnn C. Winter, daughter of Benjamin and Maty (Christenson) Winter was born on August 30, 1932 in Morris, Minnesota. The family lived in Morris for several years before purchasing a farm near Cyrus, Minnesota. JoAnn graduated from Cyrus High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Clifford Van Vickle on June 28, 1950. The couple made their home on a farm near Cyrus, where they raised sheep and chickens. JoAnn worked for the Stevens County Hospital in Morris as a nursing assistant. In 1974, the couple purchased a home on Lake Oscar near Alexandria and JoAnn worked for the Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria for 8 years before retiring. The couple later made their home in Kensington where they have continued to live until the time of JoAnn's death.
JoAnn enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, watching and feeding birds and was an avid reader. She will be remembered for her love of embroidery and canning and her homemade tomato juice. JoAnn loved to go camping and campfires with family; traveling and spending winter months in Texas. She will always be remembered by her family for her kindness, her welcoming personality and the love she showed for her family, nieces, nephews and friends.
JoAnn died on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 81 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford, Kensington, MN; three daughters, Valorie Derby, Coon Rapids, MN, Danielle (David) Boots, Starbuck, MN and Shireen (Ben) Konarick, Perham, MN; one sister-in-law, Bernice Winter, Alexandria, MN; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. JoAnn was preceded in death by one son, Michael Van Vickle, one grandson, David Paul Boots, one son-in-law, Dan Derby, two brothers, Glen and Bee and three sisters, Jean, Phyllis and Marian.
