The funeral for Joanne Graff of Morris, Minnesota, formerly of Donnelly, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church near Donnelly, with Reverend Michael Nelson officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Kongsvinger Lutheran Cemetery, Donnelly.
Joanne Kathleen Hill, daughter of Carl and Irene (Erickson) Hill, was born January 20, 1935 in Morris, Minnesota. Joanne grew up in Morris, where she was baptized in 1935 and confirmed in 1949 at First Lutheran Church. She attended and graduated from Morris High School in 1952. On February 20, 1954, Joanne was united in marriage to Arven Graff at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Donnelly, where Joanne worked as Arven's "hired help". She could be found around the farm baling hay, combining, milking cows, picking eggs and so much more. When Joanne wasn't helping Arven she had various jobs including: working as a telephone operator; secretary for Morris High School, Morris Sun Tribune and Nelson & Giberson Law Offices; teller for Herman National Bank. In January of 2016, the couple moved to a townhome in Morris, where she continued to live until her passing.
Joanne was a longtime member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, active in the Ladies Aid, belonged to the Donnelly Book Club, Legion and VFW auxiliaries, Sons of Norway, Norwegian Dancers and Willing Workers Homemakers Club. She loved flower gardening, birds, her view of Cottonwood Lake, her collection of gnomes, camping, and anything Norwegian. Joanne especially loved to read stories to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joanne died on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at her home in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 81 years.
She is survived by her husband: Arven Graff of Morris; two children: Kathy (Wayne) Werk of Alexandria and Keith (Brenda) Graff of Morris; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two siblings: Ken (Delores) Hill of Montevideo and Darlene (Jack) Stubler of Forest Lake. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Gordon Hill and sister: Marilyn Kaehler.
