John Barber

May 6, 1934 — February 12, 2007

John William Barber, son of John Patrick and Beatrice (Hunter) Barber, was born May 6, 1934 in Alamogordo, New Mexico, where he grew up and attended school. Following his schooling, John enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Korean War, as an Airborne Medic. He received an honorable discharge on August 2, 1954. Following the war, John moved to Donnelly and worked for Lampert Lumber Company as a truck driver. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Geraldine K. Anderson. The couple continued to make their home in Donnelly, where they were blessed with one son: John Lloyd.



John was a member of the Morris American Legion, Son of American Legion, AmVets and was a member of the Minnesota past 7th District Commanders Club. He enjoyed hunting and collecting scale cars. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.



John died on Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 72 years.



He is survived by his wife: Geraldine Barber of Donnelly; one son: John Lloyd Barber (and his fiancAC.: Wanda Stoneburg) of Herman; two grandchildren: Jeromey Stoneburg and Justin Paul Barber; two brothers: Jack Barber of Las Vegas, NV and Marcus Barber of Las Vegas; one sister: Ann Trongard of Mora; sister-in-law: Kay Barber of Reno, NV and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Tomas Barber and step-father: Lloyd A. Johnson.



Pallbearers for the service are: Cal VanHorn, Sheldon Giese, Bill Leonard, Luverne Pieske, Warren Vavra and Jack Fox. Honorary pallbearers are the Morris American Legion AmVets. Peggy Wilke will serve as organist for the service with Kaylene Mecklenburg serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
