John Bauman

Funeral services for John Bauman of Morris will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Federated Church in Morris, Minnesota. Reverend Jennifer Amy-Dressler will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.

John David Bauman, son of Chris and Elizabeth (Swanson) Bauman, was born June 28, 1927 in Brookings, South Dakota. When John was 12 years old, his family moved west of Morris and began farming. John attended Morris High School, graduating in 1945. He continued to farm following his schooling. On June 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Viola Sprouls at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple lived on the farm, where they raised their twin daughters June and Janet and continued farming. John also worked as an electrician and started his own cabinet business, which he ran for the next 60 years. Upon his retirement, John and Viola continued to live on the farm until the time of his death.

John was a member of Federated Church in Morris and served as Treasurer for Darnen Township for over 50 years. John enjoyed spending time in his shop and assembling and flying model airplanes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

John died on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.

He is survived by his wife: Viola Bauman of Morris; two daughters: June (Francis) Straight of Morris and Janet (Darrell) Sauter of Ocoee, FL; three grandchildren: John (Jodi) Straight of Morris, Kathy (Charles) Schulz of Coon Rapids and Kimberly Jackson of Ocoee, FL; six great-grandchildren: Justin and Johnny Straight of Morris, Samantha Schulz of Coon Rapids, Christian and Brianna Bracy and Olivia Jackson of Ocoee, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant son, Jerry Bauman; his parents and one sister, Ione Larson.

Pallbearers for the service are: Harold Kaehler, Keith Asmus, Gary Hennen, Rob Hennen, Knute Christensen and Bob Griffith. Honorary pallbearers are John's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cheryl Rempel will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
