Funeral services for John Marlow, of Chokio, Minnesota will be held on Monday, April 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Chokio. Celebrant for the funeral mass will be Father Peter Vanderweyst. Visitation will be on Sunday at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Chokio.
John Stanley Marlow, son of Dennis and Marie (Dreis) Marlow Sr. was born on January 22, 1935 at Hancock, Minnesota. He attended first grade in Hancock, before moving with his family to Chokio, Minnesota and graduating in 1953. He was united in marriage to Betty Whitmer on January 24, 1953 at Chokio. The couple lived in Chokio, where John worked for the Tri-County Co-op for 12 years. In 1965, John and Betty began farming with John's brother Bud north of Chokio until his retirement in 2008. Over the years, John also drove semi part-time for Ordell Ritter and Buck Smith.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. John served on the A.S.C. Board, Everglade Township Board and the Tri-County Co-op Board. He enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting with his family.
John died on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home, having reached the age of 76 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, Chokio; two sons, Mark Marlow, and Jeff (Annette) Marlow, all of Chokio; two daughters, Roxanne (Lowell) Haugen, Belgrade, and Lori (Don) Schmidt, Morris; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis "Bud" (Carol) Marlow Jr., Chokio; two sisters, Mary Marlow, Richfield, MN, and Sandi Marlow (Rich) Weber, Chokio and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Julianne Marlow.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Jeremy Morton, Travis Marlow, Toby Haugen, Rob Vassallo, Matt Marlow, Joe Karsten, Bruce Haider and Curt Haider. Honorary pallbearers will be all of John's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Becky Draper will be organist and Tom and Pearl Horning will be vocalists for the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials are given in John's name to the Graceville Health Center in Graceville or the Lake Region Cancer Care and Research Center in Fergus Falls.
