John Maynard Larson was born on May 17, 1936, in Meadowlands, Minnesota to George William Larson and Grace Maria (Maki) Larson. Maynard attended first through sixth grades in Meadowlands, Minnesota. His family later settled in Alberta, Minnesota, where he completed the seventh through the twelfth grades, graduating from Alberta High School in 1954. Maynard and Delores “Lorrie” (Waller) were married in 1954, and welcomed their son, Michael John, in 1955 and daughter, Kathleen Renae, one year and one day later. Maynard and Lorrie would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2024.

Maynard and Lorrie were crop farmers south of Alberta, until their retirement in 1998. During their retirement years they loaded up the RV and headed south for the winter, traveling with friends, enjoying the trip as much as the stay. Later, they camped at Hobo Park in Starbuck, where they enjoyed companionship of friends and fellow campers.

Maynard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta. He was very creative and artistically talented. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, camping and hunting with his son, brothers and nephews. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Maynard died on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at his home in Morris surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old.

Maynard is survived by his wife: Lorrie Larson of Morris; daughter: Kathy (Jeff) Wilcox of Morris; brother-in-law & sister-in-law: Bob and Janis Waller of Maple Plain; daughter-in-law: ViAnn Larson of Morris; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
