John Stephens

Funeral services for John Stephens of Alexandria, formerly of Morris, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, with Father Todd Schneider officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown, SD.

John Clark Stephens, son of Clark and Mary (Krenzein) Stephens, was born June 18, 1944 in Watertown, SD, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Watertown High School.  Following his graduation, John joined the SD National Guard.  He was united in marriage to Dianne Stein on April 21, 1969 in Minneapolis.  The couple lived in the metro area until 1978, when they moved to Morris.  John worked in sales for Neenah Foundry Company based out of Neenah, WI, and later for Northern Water Works Supply based out of Fargo, ND.  Following his retirement, John and Dianne moved to Alexandria where he continued to live until the time of his death.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.  He loved car shows and antique cars. John’s favorite being Corvettes and belonging to the Vintage Car Club of Alexandria.  John also enjoyed architecture, designing the house they built on Pomme De Terre Lake. 

John died peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria.  He was 79 years old.

He is survived by his wife: Dianne Stephens of Alexandria; daughter: Kimberly (Dave) Cook of Rochester; son: Brent (Lexi) Stephens of Elkhorn, NE; five grandchildren; and three siblings: Susie (Gary) Thorson of Ogallala, NE, James (Roxanne) Stephens of Rapid City, SD and Becky (Jimmie) Thompson of Burleson, TX.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
