Joyce Dunnum was born to Olive and Dr. Edwin Tanquist on January 14, 1924 in Alexandria, Minnesota. She graduated with honors from Alexandria High School in 1942. She then enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where she graduated in 1946. She then enrolled in graduate school at the U of M. She was unable to obtain her masters degree as she was united in marriage to Quentin Dunnum on January 2, 1947 and a great marriage it has been. Joyce and Quent celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 2, 2007. Joyce was a stay at home MOM and when all the girls were out of high school and in college; she became the fulltime bookkeeper for their dental office.
Joyce loved the outdoors; golfing, fishing, camping, hiking, hunting and skiing, both down hill and cross country. She loved listening to music, especially classical, the blues and Dixieland. New Orleans was a favorite music vacation stop. Another vacation stop was Hannibal, MO, where Mark Twain was born. Joyce was on many committees in the Federated Church and was on the Board of Directors of Grandview for several terms. She was also a member of Students Club for many years and now is an honorary member. Joyce was a teacher in the Adult Literacy Program and she recently found out that one of her students has now graduated from UMM. She was an avid reader and very instrumental in getting the New Morris Public Library built.
