Funeral Services for Joyce Huebner of Morris will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Pastoral Intern Chris Richards and Reverend Paul Erdal will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Joyce Mae Strand, daughter of John and Mabel (Schofield) Strand, was born on October 17, 1921 on the Strand family farm north of Donnelly, Donnelly Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Herman. Joyce graduated from Morris High School in 1939. She continued her education in Wheaton MN where she received her teaching certificate. With her certificate in hand she taught in Stevens County country schools. While roller skating at Perkins roller rink east of Donnelly, Joyce met her forever love and future husband, Donald Huebner. Donald feeling compelled to serve his country during WWII, had enlisted in the Army Air Corps. However, on December 14, 1943, before Don was shipped out to serve in the European arena they married. Donald returned to Stevens County in 1945 where they continued their married life. They farmed in the Cyrus area until 1952 when they purchased a farm west of Donnelly. In 1986 the couple retired and moved to Morris.
Joyce was very active at First Lutheran Church, Minnesota Flying Farmers, and the All Tops Homemakers Club. As a couple Joyce and Don enjoyed many things including travelling and dancing. They were fixtures at the VFW dances. Joyce enjoyed bowling, embroidering when her eye sight allowed, taking part in Bible studies, and cooking/baking. There were always cookies in the cookie jar! Most of all, Joyce was happiest when with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all held a very special place in her heart.
Joyce died on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN. She lived to 93 years.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph (Mary M.) Huebner, Donnelly, and Rich (Deb) Huebner, Correll and one daughter, Diane (Richard) Beckman, San Diego CA; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Strand, Morris and Virginia Strand, Welch, MN. 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 10 siblings, Donald Strand, Melvin Strand, Mildred Bowen, Stanley Strand, Floyd Strand, Florence Trygestad, Martha Sommers, Berdella Jost, Edisteen Strand, Milton Strand.
