Memorial services for Julie Rae Boon, of Glenwood, formerly of Hancock, Minnesota, will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 am at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, Minnesota, with Reverend Emmy Swedlund officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock, Minnesota.
Julie Rae Boon, daughter of John and Carol (Dalen) Boon, was born March 21, 1957 in Morris, Minnesota. She grew up on the Boon family farm outside of Hancock. Julie was baptized April 28, 1957 and confirmed May 21, 1972 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Hancock. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1975 and later attended Wadena Technical College for two years, earning an Administrative Assistant degree. She was united in marriage to Dennis Jepma on May 19, 1978 in Orlando, Florida. The couple made their home in Hancock, MN where they raised their two sons: Ryan and Matthew. Julie spent several years working administrative assistant jobs before going back to school and earning her A.A.S. degree at Alexandria Technical and Community College in Accounting, graduating in 2003. Following graduation, Julie worked at American Business in Glenwood. In 2004, she built her new home in Glenwood. Julie finished her working career in the hospitality industry working in Glenwood and Alexandria.
Julie was one of the first athletes in Hancock to go to state and held the school discus record for over 20 years. Her athletic ability was handed down to her sons, and Julie never missed attending their sporting events, including football, basketball, baseball and track. Julie had a green thumb and enjoyed growing plants and flowers both indoors and outdoors. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and researching her genealogy. Julie was a talented cook and was always ready for a good time. Most of all, Julie cherished spending time with her family.
Julie passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at her home in Glenwood, Minnesota. She was 66 years old.
She is survived by two sons: Ryan (Angela) Jepma of Delano and Matthew (Kim Taylor) Jepma of Maple Grove; three grandchildren: Ella, Michael, and Brayden Jepma all of Delano; mother: Carol Nelson of Morris; siblings: Sandy (Duane) Zeltwanger of Hancock, Don (Carol) Boon of Hancock and Diane (Hal) Klinger of Valley City, ND and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father: John Boon; step-father: Max Nelson and nephew: Jason Zeltwanger.
