Karen Livingston

Visitation for Kate Livingston of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Pastor Rochelle Anderson will be officiating.

Karen "Kate" Livingston, daughter of Dr. Martin and Lucille Kuonen, was born August 4, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. Kate graduated from Valley Forge High School in 1964 and continued her education at Cuyahoga Community College for early childhood education. Following her Cuyahoga education, Kate worked for 20 years in credit and collections. In 1980 Kate met Dale Livingston through a Coast Guard friend. The couple was united in marriage on August 24, 1985 in Strongsville, Ohio. Following their marriage, they moved to Shakopee, Minnesota where Kate continued her education at Normandale Community College earning her associate degree in accounting. In 1996, Dale's job led the couple to Morris, Minnesota and Kate worked for Nutritional Services Inc. and delivering noon meals to Grandview Apartments since 2000. She has also worked as the financial secretary for First Lutheran Church since 2006. In 2000, Kate and Dale, along with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Morris Wetlands Management District former Manager Steve Delahanty, co-founded Friends of the Morris Wetland Management District. This was the first Wetlands Management District Friends group founded in the United States.

In addition to Friends Of The Morris Wetland District, Kate had been involved in a couple of community projects including the Blandin Prairie Renaissance Project and was on the non-profit Resource Connections Expo Committee. As a natural companion to her environmental interests, Kate, Dale and their dog, enjoyed camping and hiking. She also loved the color purple, reading, getting facials, enjoying the outdoors around the couple's fire pit, and listening to 50s and 60s era rock and roll, especially the Eagles. Kate will always be remembered as an enthusiastic, active, and colorful member of the Morris community.

Kate died on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 67 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, Morris; two sisters, Bonnie (Dale) Koch, Olmsted Falls, OH and Kelly (Michael) Staudt, Sidney, OH; one sister-in-law, Marsha (Chris) Carr, New Market, NH; three nieces, Kellie (Matt) Ellis, Medina, OH, Jessica Wish, Independence, OH and Katie Staudt, Flint, MI; five nephews, Michael (Jen) Wish, North Ridgeville, OH, Greg Koch, Berea, OH, Joey (Mary) Wish, Brunswick, OH, Joey (Ashley) Staudt, Columbus, OH and John Staudt, Chicago, IL; and one cousin, Nancy Pokorny, Hinkley, OH. Kate was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and David Wish.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in Kate's name to Friends of the Morris Wetland Management District or Morris Relay for Life.
