Memorial services for Katherine Spencer of Starbuck, MN will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Katherine Saylor Spencer was born August 17, 1918 at the family home at Brussett, Montana, to Edward J. and Lorena Saylor. She graduated from Garfield County High School in Jordan, Montana in 1936.
She married Benjamin Gregory Spencer at Shell, Wyoming in 1937. They had three children, Sandra (Sandy), Robert (Bob) and William (Bill). After her family was raised, she worked in the medical field as a bookkeeper and receptionist until her retirement. She and Ben moved to Starbuck, MN in 1990 to be near family. She is a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and the First Congregational Church of Billings, MT. She was an active member in various art organizations in both Montana and Minnesota. She won several awards and ribbons throughout the years for her wonderful talents. Kay enjoyed her family, painting, many crafts, gardening and life in general. She was vivacious and outgoing and always willing to lend a helping hand where needed.
Katherine died on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 95 years.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; her parents; five brothers; one sister and one grandchild. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Bob) Johnsrud of Starbuck, MN; sons, Robert B. (Linda) Spencer of Stanwood, WA and William T. Spencer of Helena, MT; grandchildren, J.B. (Cindy) Ehrmantraut of Sebeka, MN, Jeannie Meidinger of Menahga, MN and Virginia Spencer of Everett, WA; 7 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and one brother, Edward J. (Lorraine) Saylor of Puyallup, WA along with many nieces and nephews.
